La creciente matrícula de estudiantes con Trastorno del Espectro Autista (TEA) en el sistema educativo chileno —que supera los 90.000 alumnos— ha visibilizado una urgente pregunta: ¿realmente están preparados los colegios para recibirlos?
Aunque la ley de inclusión (2015) abrió las puertas de las aulas comunes a estudiantes con diversas condiciones, persisten barreras críticas que dificultan una integración real y de calidad:
- Falta de capacitación docente: Muchos educadores no cuentan con herramientas específicas para adaptar metodologías, manejar situaciones sensoriales o comunicarse efectivamente con estudiantes TEA.
- Déficit de profesionales de apoyo: La escasez de psicopedagogos, terapeutas ocupacionales y fonoaudiólogos en los establecimientos limita el acompañamiento individual que estos estudiantes requieren.
- Infraestructura inadecuada: Los espacios con sobrecarga sensorial (ruidos, luces, multitudes) pueden ser abrumadores, y son pocos los colegios que cuentan con salas de apoyo o recursos para adecuaciones.
Más allá de la matrícula, el verdadero desafío está en que los estudiantes TEA no solo estén presentes en la sala de clase, sino que puedan aprender, participar y sentirse pertenecientes. Hoy, el sistema sigue operando, en gran medida, bajo un modelo rígido que no se adapta a las formas distintas de aprender y estar en el aula.
La inclusión educativa no es solo un discurso; es una deuda pendiente que requiere de inversión en formación, recursos especializados y, sobre todo, un cambio de mirada colectivo. Mientras eso no ocurra, seguiremos hablando de integración en el papel, pero no en la experiencia diaria de miles de niños y niñas.
