El martes 4 de febrero, más de 35 chilenos cruzaron la Puerta Santa de la Basílica de San Pedro en el Vaticano, presididos por una cruz y la bandera nacional. Esta emotiva actividad reunió principalmente al personal diplomático de las embajadas de Chile ante el Vaticano y el gobierno de Italia, quienes, junto a sus familias y a los agregados de Carabineros y de la Armada, participaron en una peregrinación de fe. También se unieron a la procesión familias que se encontraban en el lugar, así como religiosas y jóvenes provenientes de Chile.
Los peregrinos se reunieron a las 9:30 de la mañana al inicio de la Via della Conciliazione, la avenida que conecta Italia con la Ciudad del Vaticano. Durante el recorrido de más de 500 metros hacia el mayor templo del catolicismo, oraron y cantaron. Un momento destacado de la procesión fue la parada frente a la Iglesia de Santa Maria in Traspontina, donde se venera la imagen de Nuestra Señora del Monte Carmelo. Ante ella, los peregrinos clamaron con fervor: “¡Virgen del Carmen, Reina de Chile, salva a tu pueblo, que clama a ti!”.
El entusiasmo de los chilenos llamó la atención de numerosos turistas, quienes se detuvieron a tomar fotos, grabar videos y unirse al canto de salmos, disfrutando de esta manifestación pública de fe.
David Montenegro, profesor de religión originario de Los Andes y voluntario del Jubileo, expresó su orgullo durante la peregrinación. “Ha sido una oportunidad muy linda la que se me ha brindado y agradezco poder representar a la Iglesia chilena en esta misión que estoy viviendo”, comentó emocionado.
Esta peregrinación no solo reafirma la conexión espiritual de los chilenos con su fe, sino que también destaca la importancia de la comunidad en la celebración de la cultura y la religión en un contexto internacional.
